Medical Disclaimer
Oliv™ is not a medical service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, stop reading this and call your local emergency number — 911 in the United States, 999 in the United Kingdom, 112 across the European Union — or go to your nearest emergency department.
1. What Oliv is and is not
Oliv™ is a wellness information service. The App provides general information about wellness, lifestyle, and consumer wellness products (essential oils, supplements, and household products) based on a self-reported assessment and, optionally, an observational face scan.
Oliv is not:
- a medical device under the United States Food and Drug Administration ("FDA"), the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency ("MHRA"), or any other regulator;
- a diagnostic tool or screening test;
- a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
- a pharmacy, dispensary, prescriber, or supplier of medicines or supplements;
- a substitute for a relationship with a qualified healthcare professional.
Statements made within Oliv have not been evaluated by the FDA, MHRA, the European Medicines Agency, or any other regulatory body. The App is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
2. Wellness assessments are self-reported
The Oliv wellness assessment relies entirely on the answers you provide. We do not verify your answers, your health status, or any underlying condition you may have. The accuracy and usefulness of the assessment depend on the honesty and completeness of your responses. The assessment is not a diagnostic instrument, screening tool, or clinical assessment of any kind.
3. The face scan is observational
The optional face-scan feature offers an observational reading only. It does not, and shall not be used as, a medical diagnosis, screening, or clinical assessment. It is not designed to detect, diagnose, or treat any disease, condition, or symptom, and must not be relied on for any clinical purpose.
Light, posture, camera quality, time of day, and many other factors can affect the reading. If anything in the reading prompts a health concern, please seek the opinion of a qualified healthcare professional rather than relying on the App.
4. Recommendations are not prescriptions
The products that Oliv suggests — essential oils, supplements, and household products — are general wellness items, not medicines. Oliv does not prescribe, dose, or instruct on the therapeutic use of any product, nor advise on combining products with prescribed medication.
Whether a product is suitable for you depends on your individual health context. You alone are responsible for deciding whether to purchase, use, or continue using any product mentioned in the App, and for following the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidance on the product label.
5. Always consult a qualified professional
You should always consult a qualified healthcare professional — a medical doctor, registered nurse, registered dietitian, pharmacist, or other licensed practitioner — before:
- starting any new wellness regimen, diet, exercise programme, or supplement;
- using essential oils if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, managing a long-term condition, or caring for a child;
- changing or discontinuing any medication or therapy already prescribed to you; or
- acting on anything you read or see in the App if you have any doubt about whether it is appropriate for you.
Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read or saw in the Oliv App.
6. Specific cautions
6.1 Pregnant or nursing individuals
Many essential oils and supplements are contraindicated, or require special caution, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Examples include certain oils that may stimulate uterine activity and supplements containing high doses of fat-soluble vitamins. Consult your obstetrician, midwife, or a clinical aromatherapist before using any product suggested by the App during pregnancy or while nursing.
6.2 Existing medical conditions
Wellness products can interact with prescribed medication and may worsen certain conditions. If you have or are being treated for any medical condition — including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney or liver disease, epilepsy, asthma, cancer, autoimmune conditions, or mental health conditions — consult the professional treating you before using any product suggested by Oliv.
6.3 Allergies and sensitivities
Always check ingredient lists for substances to which you are allergic or sensitive. Conduct a small patch test of any new topical essential oil on the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours for any reaction before broader use. Discontinue and seek advice if you experience irritation, rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, or any other adverse reaction.
6.4 Children
Oliv is for adults aged 18 and over. Do not use Oliv-suggested products on children or adolescents without the advice of a paediatrician or other qualified healthcare professional. Many essential oils are unsafe for infants and young children.
6.5 Pets
Essential oils can be toxic to many animals — cats in particular — even by ambient exposure (e.g. diffusion). If you live with pets, consult a veterinarian about which oils are safe in your home environment.
7. Essential oils — additional safety
- Follow the product label. Manufacturers label each oil for its intended uses — topical, aromatic, or, where the manufacturer expressly indicates, internal. Always follow the manufacturer's specific instructions for the product you have purchased, and seek qualified guidance if you are unsure.
- Dilute. Most essential oils must be diluted in a carrier oil before topical application. Follow the manufacturer's dilution guidance, or seek guidance from a clinical aromatherapist.
- Avoid sensitive areas. Do not apply to the eyes, the inside of ears, mucous membranes, broken skin, or open wounds unless the product label specifically indicates the application is safe.
- Photosensitivity. Some citrus oils can increase the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid direct sun exposure to treated skin for at least 12 hours.
- Store safely. Keep essential oils out of reach of children and pets.
- Quality varies. The quality, purity, and safety of essential oils varies between suppliers. We do not warrant any specific product.
8. Supplements — additional safety
- Not evaluated by regulators. Dietary supplements are not evaluated by the FDA, MHRA, EMA, or other regulators in the same way as medicines. Statements about supplements have not been evaluated for therapeutic claims.
- Not intended to treat disease. Supplements suggested in the App are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
- Interactions. Many supplements interact with prescription medication (for example, St John's Wort with antidepressants and contraceptives; vitamin K with anticoagulants). Always tell your doctor and pharmacist about every supplement you are taking.
- Follow the label. Do not exceed the manufacturer's stated dose. More is not better, and some supplements are toxic at high doses.
- Quality varies. The composition, purity, and bioavailability of supplements varies between manufacturers and even between batches. We do not warrant any specific product.
9. Emergencies
If you or someone with you is experiencing a medical emergency:
United States: call 911
United Kingdom: call 999 (or 111 for non-emergency NHS advice)
European Union: call 112
Do not rely on the Oliv App in any urgent or emergency situation. Oliv is not designed for, and must not be used for, urgent medical decision-making.
10. No doctor-patient relationship
Your use of Oliv does not create a healthcare relationship, physician-patient relationship, or any other professional advisory relationship between you and {{LEGAL_ENTITY}} or any person involved in the App.
11. Limitation of liability
You use Oliv at your own discretion and risk. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, {{LEGAL_ENTITY}} and its affiliates accept no liability for any injury, illness, allergic reaction, adverse interaction, financial loss, or other harm arising from your use of, or reliance on, the App, the wellness assessment, the face-scan reading, or any product referenced in the App.
